Where do you attend school and what activities are you involved in?
I attend the University of Virginia, and I am majoring in psychology and cognitive science. I am the program director of the crisis HelpLine where I manage the new volunteers and take calls. In addition, I work as a group therapist for struggling first years in college. Along with these activities, I volunteer as a dental assistant at a free clinic and am on a dance team.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?
I was a peer tutor at my high school for pre-calculus, calculus, and Spanish. I have been an online Algebra II tutor for the past three summers. For the past 2 years of college, I have trained incoming members of the HelpLine on appropriate empathetic and non-judgemental techniques that are required to take calls.
What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?
I have taught with Fairfax Collegiate for 2 years. I have taught math, SAT test prep, and writing for high schoolers.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?
This summer, I am teaching math and writing. I have taught Algebra II for many summers and was a math tutor in high school. I really enjoy academic writing and have taken many academic writing classes in college.
