I'm currently at Carnegie Mellon majoring in biomedical engineering with a minor in artificial intelligence. At Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology, I have been the captain of TJ Computer Team for 2 years where I organized TJIOI, a competitive programming contest for middle and high schoolers. I was also a teaching coordinator of TJ Bioinformatics Society where I planned and hosted BioCode, a bioinformatics competition for students. Finally, I was a varsity Math Team member where I placed 5th individually at Duke Math Meet 2024, a national math competition with ~300 participants.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?Outside of Fairfax Collegiate, I worked as a math instructor at Kumon Learning Center for around 2 years. I've also worked with the PTA at my elementary school to host a series of free Python programming workshops for students.
What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?I taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the summer of 2023. As a lead TA, I helped with the program logistics throughout, but I also helped teach robotics, engineering, math, Python programming, and filmmaking classes.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer? This summer, I will be teaching robotics. I have experience with teaching this subject from when I previously worked with Fairfax Collegiate. In addition, I've taken Design and Tech and other engineering courses at my high school, and I have experience building and running robots through these classes.
What excites you about teaching and working with students? As a teacher, my goal is being able to teach students and see them excited to learn a specific topic. Looking back at my time in school, I really appreciated teachers who made learning exciting. I hope to bring that excitement to students I teach at Fairfax Collegiate.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?I enjoy playing chess competitively. I've also recently started playing badminton with friends.
