I am currently a student at the University of Chicago, studying Economics and Political Science.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate? While I was president of my high school's Model UN team, I focused on quickly teaching the newer members the basics of Model UN through unique activities, practice, and assignments. Additionally, I ran an entire Model UN conference for my school with the goal of allowing more people to participate without the time, travel, or cost barriers normally associated with Model UN. Outside of Model UN, I was a member of the Youth Advisory Board for the Children's Science Center where I frequently volunteered to teach children STEM subjects through hands-on events.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?I am teaching public speaking this summer at Fairfax Colligate. I have taken numerous public speaking classes in high school, and I ran my high school's Model UN team.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?Through my experience in Model UN, I grew as a person and I got to witness many other people grow along with me. Through teaching people skills, I mastered them myself. When we did a conference for our school, it was a full circle moment for a lot of us. We were able to inspire people in a similar way that we were inspired. My favorite part was the visible light-bulb moment where things "click" and begin to make sense. It is different for everyone, but being able to see that students understand what you are talking about really puts the whole thing in perspective and makes it that much more rewarding. I look forward to all of this while teaching this summer at Fairfax Collegiate.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?Outside of work and school, I have been learning Japanese for 4 years now. I also enjoy playing board and video games with friends. I have also been working on a model train diorama. Lastly, I enjoy cooking a variety of food from cuisines all over the world.
