Where do you attend school and what activities are you involved in?

I attend the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities and am majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I am a lead engineer in SEVA where we are designing a water purification system, an officer of M.E.D.I.C., a bioengineering club, a volunteer at Literacy Minnesota, and a part of Army Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) which emphasizes leadership and service.

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

Before Fairfax Collegiate I have had experience teaching Java and Python through a virtual classroom with Humanitas4All. Additionally, I taught coding and math at the daycare, AlphaSTEM. And currently, I help teach English to adults at a Literacy Minnesota center.

What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?

I am fortunate to have many varied engineering and research experiences in high school and college. I learned a lot about plumbing and electricity from a high school team called Team Tiny House. I was also part of a mobile app development club where I became well versed in Flutter and collaborating in a development team. Then, my for my senior research project, my best friend and I built a Machine Learning model to predict synergistic combinations of plant-based chemicals that could have enhanced antimicrobial properties. She designed the model and I performed hydrodistillation and disk diffusion tests in the lab to verify our results. I continue to take my knowledge out of the classroom with teams I am part of in college.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

I am eager to teach at Fairfax Collegiate because middle and high school were foundational years for me in figuring out what excites me and what I would potentially like to pursue as a career. When I teach, I like to supplement with projects and show how the concepts in books are used in today's cutting edge technology. I hope to inspire and engage.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

Apart from my major, I am really interested in learning different languages. I love to run and have started lifting with my friends, which has given me so much confidence and resilience. And I also enjoy watching movies with my friends and family.
