I attend the University of Virginia and am pursuing a B.A. in Psychology and American Studies. I am heavily involved in adolescent clinical psychology research at UVA, and I am currently working on constructing and publishing my Distinguished Majors Thesis in the Brains, Emotions, and Adolescent Relationships lab. Additionally, I am a volunteer and trainer for a confidential crisis helpline, which primarily serves youth in crisis in the UVA and greater Charlottesville communities! In my senior year of high school, I served as a team liaison for our Science Olympiad team, deepening my love for science through community building and teamwork.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?I have privately tutored many students in PSAT and SAT preparation, along with high school algebra, biology, chemistry, and astronomy! Additionally, I have worked with INMED through Peers and Students Taking Action (PASTA) to tutor children in subjects like elementary-level reading, writing, and math.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?I have had the privilege of taking many math, science, and writing-related courses that have instilled in me a love and confidence for learning! These courses include, but are not limited to, AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Psychology, AP English Language and Composition, Introduction to Statistics with R, and Neural Basis of Behavior!
What excites you about teaching and working with students?I love being able to witness students build their confidence in subject areas that they were previously hesitant to immerse themselves into! It is the best feeling to know that you played a small role in helping a student find their voice and express themselves in the subject areas that they are most passionate about.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?Outside of work and school, I am heavily involved in my acapella group at UVA! I love learning how to play instruments and listening to all types of music. Additionally, I love going on walks, discovering new TV shows, and reading books!
