Where do you attend school and what activities are you involved in?

I'm currently attending Virginia Tech's Honors College as a Computational Modeling and Data Analytics major with a concentration in Biological Sciences. I've been an avid member of Science Olympiad for the past eight years, where I competed in various science-related tournaments at the invitational, regional, and state levels and won numerous medals. Now, in college, I'm a Historian and a part of the Public Relations Committee, where I design graphics for our platforms and promote our competitions. In high school, I was actively involved in numerous honor societies, volunteering at a local hospital, Future Health Professionals (HOSA), Key Club, as President, and Red Cross Society, as Vice President.

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

In my previous roles, I've privately tutored thirteen students, ranging from elementary to high school, virtually and in person at nonprofit organizations. I've worked with students in algebra, elementary and middle school science and math, basic statistics, advanced Chemistry, and writing. I also participated in math and science honor societies in high school, where I volunteered to help my peers with their coursework. This upcoming semester, I'll be assisting a professor with their introductory-level biology class.

What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?

This summer, I am teaching writing, math, and programming classes. I've taken advanced writing and math courses, including AP English Language and Composition, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, and statistics. I have proficient experience in several coding languages: Python, R, Java, and JavaScript. Currently, I'm involved in an undergraduate research project under a professor, where I'm using Python to create visual plots of ordinary differential equations to compare dengue fever transmission in Wolbachia-infected and uninfected mosquitoes. I also recently obtained a certification for Python in Data Science, AI, and Development through a course offered by IBM, which has enhanced my ability to work with various Python libraries. I have developed my Java and JavaScript skills through my Introduction to Software Design course in college and AP Computer Science Principles class in high school.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

I am excited to see the students grow and feel more comfortable and confident in facing academic challenges. The energy and joy that young students bring can truly help to build a welcoming classroom environment to better expand their interest in specific subjects. I am also thrilled to build meaningful relationships with each student, allowing me to better address their needs and support their journey!

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

Aside from academics, I enjoy dancing, particularly Indian classical or Bollywood, singing, and walking outside. I also recently joined the Bhangra dance team at my university!
