Where do you attend school, and what what are you studying?
I have a B.A. in Economics, with a minor in Statistics, from the University of Virginia. I was involved in Women's Entrepreneurship at UVA, Business Ethics Society, Honor Committee (Educator pool), and University Programs Council. I was selected as an Undergraduate Teaching Fellow in the Economics department, and one of three recipients selected for a scholarship in my department.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?
I have tutored independently in math, and as a volunteer at my local library. Furthermore, I have extensive experience teaching as a UTF for two years to university students by leading two discussion sections weekly. I was in charge of helping students master concepts, and pave the foundational thinking/understanding for a major in Economics.
What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?
I started working with Fairfax Collegiate in the summer of 2021, and I've taught various subjects including Mock Trial, Debate, Math, Model UN, Public Speaking, Writing, SAT Prep, PSAT Prep, Essays, and Paragraphs.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?
In high school, I was significantly involved in Model UN and Debate. In college, I held several leadership positions that allowed me to practice public speaking in front of large groups of people. Furthermore, as a UTF in college, I had to teach two discussion sections weekly for 50 minutes each, making it a priority to be able to express ideas coherently and efficiently. I have taught Math in high school within my honor society, and during the school year with Fairfax Collegiate. I have also taught the subject areas in my prior two summers working with Fairfax Collegiate, and I look forward to teaching them again.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?
I think what excites me about teaching and working with students is that every student is different in the way that they learn and what excites them. It's truly such a meaningful experience to be table to tap into each individual student's interests and see the realization and growth they experience when they understand something new. Because I have taught many different subjects, it's wonderful being able to see how although teaching different subjects can rely on different processes and skills, there's so much that also brings them together.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?
I love doing yoga and dancing outside of school. I frequently have a book in hand, and just love being outside enjoying the nice weather when possible.
