Where do you attend school, and what what are you studying?

I currently attend Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

I have over 500 hours of experience tutoring Korean at my church, over 150 hours of independent math tutoring experience, and around 30 hours of tutoring experience at the TJHSST Math Center.

What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?

I have a strong background in math, science, computer science, and engineering through both my classes and my personal tutoring experience. I have taken advanced STEM courses such as AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science, and engineering related courses, which have pushed me to understand not just how to solve problems, but why they work.

I have also worked for several years as an independent math tutor, and I currently serve as a math tutor at my school, TJHSST. In addition, I have been a Korean language tutor for several years. Through tutoring, I have become better at breaking problems into smaller, manageable steps and explaining concepts in different ways depending on each student’s needs. I understand that being strong in a subject is not the same as being able to teach it well, so I focus on making the material feel clear, approachable, and manageable.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

I genuinely love teaching and helping people, which is a big reason why I tutor and volunteer. I like being able to take something that feels confusing for others and help make it click. I enjoy seeing the impact of my tutoring on each individual student I teach. There is something really rewarding about watching a student go from afraid and confused to confident and eager for more.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

Outside of school and work, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, playing video games, going on runs or rowing on an ergometer, and watching shows.
