I am a student at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where I am studying mathematics and economics with a minor in saxophone performance! In High School, I was a very avid saxophonist, and was selected as the top saxophonist in Virginia for three years in a row. I was also a member of the Math Honor Society, National Honor Society, and Music Honor Society chapters at my high school.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?I have tutored math for over 50 hours through the Math Honor Society and other programs at my high school, and have also taught dozens of saxophone lessons over the years as well as a part of various volunteer programs.
What subjects have you taught with Fairfax Collegiate in the past?I started working with Fairfax Collegiate in the summer of 2023, and I have taught math, debate, and creative writing.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?I am teaching public speaking classes this summer. With debate, I have experience with the format of parliamentary debate, having taught it in previous summers. I have also participated in various debate formats in the variety of advanced placement English and History classes I have taken.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?Although it may sound simple, I truly do enjoy seeing students learn new things. This really makes me feel like I have done a good job teaching and validates my job as a teacher. This is especially notable on math post-tests. I also love students laughing and enjoying themselves!
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?I love to play the saxophone, and I am also the drummer of a rock band I formed with some close friends. I also love to play basketball, golf, and various other sports. I love listening to music, especially rock.
