Winter Break Writing and Debate Workshops

Get ready to take your writing and public speaking skills to the next level during Fairfax Collegiate's 3-day Winter Break Workshops!

Our programs are short so that you don't have to sacrifice spending time with family. The small classes are taught by some of our most experienced instructors, so your child can enjoy a energetic and motivating environment where they'll get plenty of individual attention.

General Information:

  • We have classes for 3rd to 5th graders, and for 6th to 8th graders
  • Each class is 3 days long, and 3 hours per day (dates and times listed below)
  • Classes will be held at our office in Herndon at 722 Grant St., Ste. J (map)
  • The cost for each course is $225
  • Each class has a strict enrollment limit of 12 students

Short Story Workshop

Grades 3-5

Wed, Dec 26 through Fri, Dec 28
9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Each student writes and revises three drafts of his or her own original short story. The instructor provides detailed corrections and suggestions for each draft. Students share and discuss their stories. Each day the class also reads and discusses a classic short story. Daily exercises develop key writing skills.

Personal Narrative Workshop

Grades 6-8

Personal narratives are short, first-person accounts of an event or experience. The class reads and discusses notable examples of the genre. Each student writes and revises three drafts of his or her own original personal narrative. The instructor provides detailed corrections and suggestions for each draft. Students share and discuss their personal narratives with each other. Daily exercises develop key writing skills.
