Jack Wolff

Where do you attend school and what activities are you involved in?

I am attending the University of Virginia and am intending on majoring in Math and Drama. I have participated in multiple school theatrical performances including the schools mainstage "The Green Bird" (as the Green Bird). In high school I was captain of my high school's debate club specializing in the Lincoln Douglas debate format. I also was president of my school's international thespian society and was captain of the speech team doing both extemporaneous and humorous duo speech categories.

What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?

My past teaching experience includes hosting my own debate camp in the Summer of 2022, alongside privately tutoring personal debate students. Alongside this I have taught classes on how to do Lincoln Douglas debate when I was captain of my team. Additionally I have worked with youth in the Charlottesville area through the program "Kids Acting Out" to teach them theatre skills.

What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?

I have done public speaking and debate all my life. I placed top 8 in the NCFL Grand National tournament in 2021, alongside placing 2nd in VHSL state extemporaneous speaking in 2022. Furthermore, I have been captain of both my schools debate and speech teams. And in a more general speaking sense have been acting for over 10 years, working on the ability to perform and express myself in front of others.

What excites you about teaching and working with students?

I am excited to get to work with students to help them find their passions and come out of their shell. Growing up I was extremely shy and anxious, and my favorite teachers were the ones who helped me get the confidence to speak up and express myself. I hope to be someone that creates a safe space like that for these students as others have created for me in the past.

Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?

I enjoy playing boardgames, and I go to tournaments to play boardgames with others. I also like theatre and am on The Whethermen improv team at UVA (UVA's oldest improv team).
