Investigate our organ systems through lab activities, and learn about causes and treatment of disease.
Students get an introduction to the field of medicine through a variety of hands-on activities, examining both the science behind modern medicine, as well as its practical applications.
Week 1 investigates major anatomical systems and our medical approach to them, exploring our cardiovascular, pulmonary, lymphatic, and musculoskeletal systems through activities including dissection and realistic simulations of suturing and phlebotomy. Week 2 introduces pathology, epidemiology, and the treatment of disease through pharmaceuticals. Experiments with student maintained bacterial cultures demonstrate immune system function and antibiotic efficacy.
