Number Sense 5-6

This class provides 5th- and 6th-grade students who are comfortable with grade-level content with a rigorous yet approachable discovery of the real number system. Students will be challenged to expand their conceptual thinking as topics begin at the 5th-grade level and progressively move into an 8th-grade level.

Topics include (but are not limited to) sum, difference, product, quotients of fractions, decimals, and percents (FDP), rounding decimals, order of operations, ordering FPD, comparing FDP, scientific notation, ordering with scientific notation, ordering real numbers, subsets of the real number system, square roots, perfect squares, ratios, proportions, and word problems.


  • Students must have a device with a microphone and a camera
  • A device with a keyboard is recommended, but optional
  • Students must have access to a printer
  • Students must have a reliable internet connection
