Students plan, write, shoot, and edit their own films on digital video.
The course begins with exercises covering acting, script writing, storyboarding, shot listing, location scouting, camera operation, lighting, and sound.
The majority of the course is devoted to group production of two short films using tripods, advanced video cameras, boom microphones, costumes, props, and (optionally) lighting kits.
Students edit their films and export them to a private Vimeo account.
In the online format, students collaborate in a digital environment to produce short films. With the guidance of instructors, students brainstorm ideas, write original scripts, and create shot lists and storyboards. Students shoot their films using their own cameras, incorporating a variety of costumes and props. Students edit their films, add music and credits, complete post-production, and export their films to a private Vimeo account for home viewing.
Note: Students will need a device with a web camera and microphone. It is recommended that they use a tablet or smartphone if possible. Students will write scripts collaboratively in Google Docs, so a familiarity with word processing and the Google Docs interface is recommended as well.
