Benjamin Ragan is a rising senior at GMU studying psychology and neuroscience. He grew up in Greenville, SC and participated in the state’s top rated speech and debate program at Southside High School. He was a two-time Congressional Debate state champion, a National Finalist, and was ranked one of the top 20 debaters in the nation during his junior year.
After high school, Ben focused his studies on the intersection between psychology, neuroscience, and criminal justice. He has worked in various labs at George Mason to research the effects of mental illness in people who are incarcerated and examine what policies are effective in addressing their needs.
Ben believes that public speaking and debate are not just extracurriculars, but skills that are applicable in every career and everyday life. His goal is help students gain the experience and confidence to clearly, concisely, and respectfully express their ideas.
