Make projects with a tiny computer.
This course is perfect for students who enjoy computers, electronics, or programming and want an approachable introduction to how such devices work. The class blends guided practice with beginner-friendly projects as students learn new skills step by step. Prior experience with any type of programming is helpful but not required.
Students install a Linux-based operating system, navigate the terminal, and experiment with Python to draw graphics, edit simple games, and control hardware. They connect cameras, build basic circuits, light LEDs, and create music with Sonic Pi. Fairfax Collegiate provides Raspberry Pi systems for student use.
At the end of the course, students take home a digital collection of photos and videos documenting their completed projects, as well as copies of their project source code. Students leave ready to continue exploring programming, electronics, and creative computing with greater confidence and curiosity.
