Intro to AI

Rising Grades 7 to 9

Explore the present and future of AI.

This course is designed for students who are curious about artificial intelligence and want an engaging introduction to how modern AI systems work. The class blends clear, concept-first lessons with guided exploration so students build confidence as they experiment, make predictions, and analyze simple model behavior. Discussions and activities help students understand how AI is used today and how it might shape the world they grow up in.

Students test real machine learning models for images and text, try structured prompting techniques, and explore how changes in data or instructions affect model results. They work with Google Colab and the Hugging Face Hub to run beginner-friendly experiments, compare outcomes, and uncover where AI tools succeed or struggle. Fairfax Collegiate provides laptops for all student work.

At the end of the course, students can access their accounts and continue exploring their projects at home. They leave with a stronger understanding of how AI works, increased confidence using modern tools, and excitement to keep learning about technology and problem solving.
