Prepare to ace the tests that open the door to Algebra 1.
This course prepares mathematically advanced students to qualify for enrollment in Algebra 1 as 7th graders. Specifically, the course is designed around FCPS’ two requirements: a 91st percentile score on the Iowa Algebra Aptitude Test (IAAT), and a pass advanced score on the Grade 7 Math SOL. Through targeted lessons and practice with essential math concepts, students build the confidence needed to tackle challenging problems on these critical assessments.
The course includes detailed coverage of the four subtest sections of the IAAT (Pre-Algebraic Number Skills and Concepts; Interpreting Mathematical Information; Representing Relationships; and Using Symbols) as well as the five categories tested on the Grade 7 Math SOL (Number and Number Sense; Computation and Estimation; Measurement and Geometry; Probability and Statistics; and Patterns, Functions, and Algebra).
By the end of the course, students will have a strong foundation in mathematical concepts, practical tools for test preparation, and experience gained from sample test questions and full-length practice tests. They leave feeling confident, motivated, and ready to excel on both the IAAT and Grade 7 Math SOL.
