Cybersecurity Lab

Rising Grades 9 to 12

Defend against attacks and threats.

This course is designed for students who are interested in IT and cybersecurity and excited to explore how systems, networks, and online threats work. The class blends direct instruction with guided practice as students learn essential concepts and then apply them in interactive, beginner-friendly labs. Lessons build steadily so students can develop confidence with new tools, understand how attacks happen, and practice the skills used by modern cybersecurity professionals.

Students investigate vulnerable systems, analyze mock cyber incidents, design simple secure networks, and work through hands-on TryHackMe challenges that introduce tools in a safe, browser-based environment. They tackle multi-step projects that ask them to think like defenders, explain what they discovered, and test out solutions. The course ends with a CompTIA Security+ practice test, showing students their progress towards pursuing this industry-recognized certification. Fairfax Collegiate provides all necessary equipment.

At the end of the course, students can access their accounts and continue exploring cybersecurity concepts and challenges at home. They leave with stronger technical foundations and the confidence to pursue more advanced cybersecurity, networking, or computer science coursework.

Fairfax Collegiate will offer this course for the first time in the 2026 Summer Program, and the full course syllabus (goals, topics, and day-by-by schedule) will be posted closer to the start of the Summer Program.
