Use remote servers to get work done.
This course provides students who are curious about IT and cloud computing with a broad introduction to the technology that powers today’s internet apps and services. The class blends guided concept exploration, skill-building practice exercises, and scenario-based reasoning to learn how real organizations use Amazon Web Services (AWS) to build secure, scalable systems. Instruction moves step by step, building a strong foundation while encouraging students to think like cloud architects and problem solvers.
Students explore core AWS services, sketch simple architectures, estimate cloud costs, and complete multi-step projects such as designing secure access models or planning cloud deployments for fictional companies. Curated AWS Educate and AWS Skill Builder modules provide an authentic practice environment for students to apply what they've learned. The course ends with a sample AWS Cloud Practioner exam, giving students a head start on pursuing obtaining this industry-recognized certification. Fairfax Collegiate provides laptops for each student and ensures that all students have access to the tools they need to experiment and create.
At the end of the course, students use their AWS Educate and Skill Builder accounts to continue viewing, sharing, and refining their work. They leave with stronger technical confidence and a clearer sense of how to keep building toward certifications, advanced cloud coursework, or future IT pathways.
