I am currently a biochemistry major at Virginia Tech with a minor in intellectual property law. At Virginia Tech, I am the outreach coordinator for a local organization called Compress and Shock, where I teach people how to correctly perform CPR and use an AED. I am also a certified EMT as well as a tutor on my college campus.
What have your teaching opportunities been outside of Fairfax Collegiate?Throughout my time in high school, I tutored students in a variety of subjects, including math, English, science, and SAT prep. I also helped organize tutoring sessions in my community, especially when learning was impacted during the pandemic. Additionally, I was the president of both the Chemistry Society and Microbiology Club, where I would teach various scientific topics through interactive lectures and demonstrations.
What sort of experience have you had in the subject you’ll be teaching this summer?I have previously taken advanced science classes, including organic chemistry, biochemistry, neurobiology, and DNA science. Additionally, I have completed Calc 2 and Linear Algebra for my degree. For my minor, I have also taken several college writing classes encompassing both creative and nonfiction writing methods. I am also passionate about scientific research and have engaged in laboratory-based and computational science projects in the past several years.
What excites you about teaching and working with students?I love the energy that students have about learning and hope to share my enthusiasm about these topics with them.
Outside of work, what are some hobbies you enjoy?I like to garden, hike, sew, watch soccer games, and play with my dog!
