Practice street driving and auto racing.
On a realistic sim, practice safe driving on highways, in cities, and on rural roads. Take a driving test and earn an unofficial license.
Move on to racing high-performance autos, driving in bad weather, avoiding accidents, and responding to extreme situations.
This course is designed for students interested in cars, driving or racing games, or computers and who want an exciting introduction to how vehicles work. Activties are designed around the use of several realistic city driving and racing simulators, as well as learning about additional topics related to automotive history, technology, and mtaintenance.
Students take on missions in city-driving simulators, learn what dashboard indicators mean, and explore signs, signals, and road rules through interactive challenges. They try beginner racing activities, experiment with how speed and steering affect control, and discover what’s happening “under the hood” by building a model engine. At the end of the course, students test their knowledge with a sample learner's permit exam. Fairfax Collegiate provides gaming PCs and racing wheel controllers for students to use, and students work individually for most activities.
At the end of the course, instructors upload a collection of class photos and videos for families to access. Students leave with a stronger understanding of driving, basics of automotive technology, and safe decision-making.
