Digital PSAT/NMSQT Prep

Rising Grades 9 to 12

Prepare for the digital PSAT/NMSQT, the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Many public school systems in the Northern Virginia area provide an opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to take the PSAT/NMSQT class during school hours, usually in mid-October. In addition to being the qualifying test for the NMSP and other scholarships, the PSAT is regarded as students' last formal chance to practice before taking the SAT for college applications.

The math review portion of the course covers algebraic expressions and equations, graphical representations, statistics, and strategies for the math sections of the test. The reading/writing review emphasizes grammar and mechanics, locating information, making inferences, and analyzing rhetoric.

Students complete two practice PSAT/NMSQT tests under timed conditions and become familiar with question formats, test scoring, and time-management strategies. Instructors write evaluations with suggestions for improvement.

Families attending online will need to order a copy of the course textbook from Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/dp/0593516583) or any other retailer of their choice. (Fairfax Collegiate provides textbooks for families attending in-person)
