Colin Beckner

I just finished my sophomore year at BASIS Independent McLean. I'm a member of my school's debate team, where I got 3rd place at finals in the JV Division in 2024. Additionally, I'm currently a Life Scout in Boy Scouts. I also was a Top 30 Finalist for the Thermo Fisher Junior Innovators Challenge in 2023, a national science fair competition.

I have a lot of teaching experience through my Boy Scout Troop. My Troop puts a big emphasis on scouts teaching other scouts skills and knowledge, and as one of the older scouts and as a former Senior Patrol Leader, it has been my job to teach the younger scouts and help them progress in rank over the past few years. This experience has taught me how to best communicate knowledge and teach someone else.

I have a diversity of experiences when it comes to both helping out with teaching and making sure the location runs smoothly. I've taken a variety of classes in school related to Science (AP Bio, Honors Chem), English (AP Lang, Honors Lit), Social Studies (AP US History, AP Gov, AP Economics), and Math (Pre-Calc). Additionally, I have taken many Fairfax Collegiate classes in the past such as Probability and Statistics, Aerospace Engineering, and Presidential Writing to name a few. I also have experience with many different types of technologies and programs such as Autodesk Maya, Blender, Python, Unity, and 3D Printers. Furthermore, I held the most senior position in my Boy Scout troop, Senior Patrol Leader, for over a year where I had to manage both people and supplies while reporting to the adults to make sure my troop ran smoothly. These experiences allow me to help out in variety of different ways at Fairfax Collegiate this summer.

Outside of school one of my favorite activities is to swim. I do both club swim during the school year and swim for my neighborhood pool's swim team in the summer. I'm also an avid sports fan with my favorite sports to watch on weekends being the NFL and Formula One.
