The Fairfax Collegiate 2010 Screenwriting Contest is open to students who reside in Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia and who, in September of 2010, will enter grades 4, 5, or 6 (the Junior Division), or grades 7, 8, or 9 (the Senior Division).
Scripts must be the student's original work, must be between 8 and 12 pages in length, and must use standard screenplay format. Standard screenplay format is described here: http://www.scriptologist.com/Magazine/Formatting/formatting.html. Scripts should be submitted as Microsoft Word or Adobe .pdf files.
Scripts should require no more than five actors and actresses. Required settings, props, special effects, and stunts must be appropriate.
Submitters must grant Fairfax Collegiate the right to use the script in the Summer Program. Please complete and submit the release form.
Our expert panel of judges will select semi-finalists and provide detailed feedback and suggestions for improvement. Semi-finalists will have the opportunity to revise their scripts. The deadline for submitting the final versions is April 30, 2010.
The judges will select three finalists for the Junior division and three finalists for the Senior division. These scripts will be read aloud by actors at the Video Filmmaking Open House the evening of May 3, 2010. After the performances, the judges will decide the Grand Prize, Second Prize, and Third Prize winners for each division.
The Grand Prize for each division will be $100 cash and free filmmaking class in the 2010 Fairfax Collegiate Summer Program. Second Prize will be $50 cash and a free filmmaking class. Third Prize will be $25 cash and a free filmmaking class. All scripts submitted will be eligible for production by a Fairfax Collegiate Summer Program filmmaking class!
This is our first Fairfax Collegiate Screenwriting Contest. We are eager to discuss your questions or suggestions. Please email us or phone us at 703 481-3080.
