TJ Exam Verbal and Science Boot Camp 7-8

Update: The start date for the TJ Exam Boot Camps has been postponed until the School Board decides whether or not to act on the FCPS Superintendent's recommendations (link). The Boot Camp is still open for registration, and we will email updates to all registered families as soon as they become available.


This online course help students prepare for the verbal and scientific sections of the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology entrance exam:

  • Students learn how to answer questions regarding Reading and Science passages in the ACT Aspire test
  • Students make inferences, summarize, find details, form connections, and organize a sequence of events in literature passages
  • Students understand how to avoid misleading answer choices in the Reading section
  • Students learn how scientific experiments are designed and presented to an audience
  • Students learn how to interpret data, evaluate hypotheses, and gather information from tables and graphs
  • Students understand how to read a scientific report and how to use the information in it to answer questions related to the report

The enrollment limit is 12 students.

Students take two full-length practice tests outside of class, and receive a written evaluation after the class is complete.


  • Students must have a device with a microphone and a camera
  • A device with a keyboard is recommended, but optional
  • Students must have access to a printer
  • Students must have a reliable internet connection
  • In order to participate in the online version of the class, families will need to order a copy of the course textbook from Amazon ( or any other retailer of their choice.
