Fairfax Collegiate is hiring Instructors, Assistant Instructors, and Location Directors.
Fairfax Collegiate hires instructors with diverse backgrounds. Many instructors are enrolled undergraduates at highly selective colleges and universities. Some instructors are professional teachers or mid-career professionals. Writing and Reading instructors have either earned or are presently pursuing M.F.A. Writing or English M.A. graduate degrees.
New instructors generally team teach with a returning instructor, except that most Writing and Reading classes only have one instructor. Classes usually have 14 or fewer students.
Assistant Instructors are entering college or their senior year of high school. Assistant instructors help instructors with administrative tasks, student supervision, and grading, and also work individually with students.
Most Location Directors are professional elementary or secondary teachers.
This year the Summer Program will begin on June 28 and end on September 3. The program is divided into five two-week sessions. Some staff members work all five sessions, many work three or four sessions, and a small number work one or two sessions. Most teachers opt for a full-day schedule (mornings and afternoons), except that Writing and Reading instructors generally work half-days (either mornings or afternoons).
Fairfax Collegiate will operate seven 2010 Summer Program locations, all in the Northern Virginia area: Alexandria, Ashburn, Chantilly, Fairfax, Falls Church, Herndon, and Reston. The Summer Program Office is located at 722 Grant St, Suite J, in Herndon, VA.
Fairfax Collegiate is applying an entrepreneurial, professional services business model to education. What does this mean in simple English? Our staff is our key competitive advantage. To attract and retain superior staff, we strive to pay well, reduce hierarchy, push autonomy and decision making into the classroom, measure results, and reward high performers.
For each position, hourly compensation is in the upper-quintile (top 20%) for comparable summer teaching and camp opportunities.
