When may students be dropped off?

For morning sessions, please drop off students between 8:15 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. Families electing extended care may drop off students as early as 7:30 a.m. For afternoon sessions, please drop off students between 12:15 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.

When may students be picked up?

Students leaving after the morning session will wait in the designated classroom and may be picked up between 12:00 p.m. and 12:15 p.m. Students leaving after the afternoon session may be picked up between 4:00 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. in the designated classroom. All children must be signed out by a parent. Please notify the summer program if someone other than a parent is picking up a student, or if a student is walking home or taking an alternative form of transportation. Families electing extended care must pick up students by 6:00 p.m.

What is extended care?

Extended care is supervised care before and after classes held in the designated classroom. Morning extended care runs from 7:30 a.m. - 8:15 a.m., and afternoon extended care runs from 4:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. The cost for extended care is $80 per session per child for either mornings or afternoons and $160 per session per child for both mornings and afternoons. The daily charge is $8/morning or afternoon or $16/day per student. Families will be charged a late fee of $1 per minute after 6:00 p.m.

Are there breaks?

There is a 20 minute supervised break in the morning at 10:00 a.m. and in the afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Activities vary by location but may include soccer, basketball, and going to the playground. The Ashburn, Alexandria, and Reston locations have limited recreational facilities; hence, students will have an indoor break. All locations have a designated indoor break area where students can play games, socialize, and eat snacks. Break will be held inside on Code Orange heat alert days for all locations.

What supplies should students bring?

Students should bring pencils, pens, paper, and a pocket folder for each course. In addition to these items, students should bring calculators for the test prep courses.

When do students eat lunch?

Lunchtime is from 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m. in the designated classroom. All full-day students need to bring lunch. Students can store their lunches in a refrigerator and use a microwave.

Which locations are kosher facilities?

The Alexandria, Fairfax, and Reston locations are kosher facilities. Poultry, pork, meath or shellfish are prohibited from being brought into these locations. Lunches should be dairy or vegetarian. There will be a microwave at each facility. You may bring the following: microwavable cheese pizza (or other microwavable vegetarian dishes), tuna sandwiches, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, plain and vegetarian pastas, salads, and egg salad sandwiches.

Is there a dress code?

Since it is summertime, students may wear appropriate T-shirts, shorts, and sneakers.

What are the key expectations for student conduct at the summer program?

We have five rules. Each location director will review these rules with each class at the beginning of each session:

Whom do I contact if my child has to leave early?

Please let your location director know as soon as possible if you will need to pick up your child early. Please stop by the main office, and the location director or a staff member will escort you to your child's classroom. We ask that you let us know in advance if your child will be missing class meetings so that your child's instructor can provide assignments for the days missed.

What if my child arrives late?

Please have your child report directly to the main office. The Location Director will escort your child to his or her class.

How will instructors evaluate students?

Instructors will write an individual evaluation of each student at the end of the math, writing, test prep, and public speaking, debate, foundation skills, and directed study courses that will highlight strengths and areas for improvement. For the robotics, computer, video, and photography courses, teachers will provide evaluations upon parents' requests.

What is the parent survey?

We will email a brief survey on the last day of the program. We really appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your comments, questions, compliments, and suggestions for improvement.

What is your tax id number?

Our tax id number is 06-1719074.
